The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced the release of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results on Monday. The examination, which took place between April 19th and 29th, saw over 1.9 million candidates registered to compete for spots in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
While the results are now available, it's important to note that JAMB is withholding the results of 64,624 candidates for possible examination infractions. These cases are currently under investigation.
Out of the remaining results that were released, a significant portion of test-takers fell below the 200 mark.
According to JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, roughly 1.4 million candidates, or 76% of those who received scores, scored below 200.
On the other hand, a small percentage of candidates achieved exceptional results. Only 8,401 candidates, translating to 0.5% of the total, scored 300 or above. The maximum achievable score on the UTME is 400.
Here's a breakdown of the performance according to JAMB:
- Below 200: 1,402,490 (76%)
- 200 and Above: 439,974 (24%)
- 250 and Above: 77,070 (4.2%)
- 300 and Above: 8,401 (0.5%)
