The Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a standardized test used by medical and dental schools in the United Kingdom and internationally to assess applicants' academic abilities and critical thinking skills. BMAT results are an important part of the admissions process for many of these schools.
When do BMAT results come out in 2024?
The BMAT (Bio-Medical Admissions Test) has been discontinued from 2024 onwards. This means that there will be no BMAT exams or results for 2024. If you were planning to take the BMAT for medical school applications, you'll need to look into alternative tests like the UCAT, which many universities are now using.
Sharing your BMAT results with universities
Whether you need to share your results with universities or whether they will be shared automatically depends on which universities you have applied to. Some universities will automatically receive your results, while others will require you to share them manually using the Metritests system.
To share your results manually, follow these steps:
- 1. Go to your Metritests account.
- 2. Click on the test inside your Metritests account and select the ‘Share Results’ option.
- 3. Select the universities you want to receive your results using the dropdown under ‘Institution Name’, then the degree(s) from the dropdown under ‘Course Details’, then click ‘Save’.
What if I don't use the Metritests system?
If you do not make your selection using the Metritests system, your test results will not be provided to the university.
For most universities, sharing results does not constitute an application, and your results will not be considered unless you have also made a formal application to the university. Please contact the universities directly on how to do this.
Explanation of BMAT Results
Results for Sections 1 and 2 are reported on the BMAT scale, which runs from 1 (low) to 9 (high), with scores being reported to one decimal place. Extreme scores are expected to be comparatively rare.
The scale has been designed so that typical applicants to the most highly selective undergraduate university courses (who are by definition academically very able) will score in the region of 5.0.
The best applicants will score more highly, but 6.0 represents a comparatively high score and only a few very exceptional applicants will achieve BMAT scores higher than 7.0.
You can see the score distribution for 2022 results in this PDF.
Conclusion (BMAT Results 2024)
BMAT results are an important part of the application process for many medical and dental schools. If you are sitting the BMAT in October 2024, make sure that you are aware of the results release date and how to share your results with universities.
